Kerry is a Registered Mental Health and Learning Disability Practitioner. She is responsible for overseeing the clinical plans for our packages of care. Her role involves visiting the people we support, organising assessments and reviews, monitoring and auditing medication and undertaking risk assessments. She also oversees individuals’ care plans and ensures that the people we support are able to access experts if and when needed.
Kerry has a Diploma in Mental Health Nursing from the University of Sheffield.
Kerry first started to consider a career in healthcare whilst still at school. She considered pathology at one point, but she gravitated towards mental health nursing when a family member experienced mental health issues. One of her first roles on leaving school was working as a Support Worker with adults with learning disabilities and physical disabilities in their own homes. This role inspired her to complete an Access to Nursing one-year course at Worksop College, whilst continuing her Support Worker role. She then completed a full-time three- year mental health diploma at the University of Sheffield. During these three years in Sheffield, she worked for an agency as a Support Worker alongside her studies and gained experience working in a variety of settings such as acute mental health wards, learning disability wards and elderly care. Her first role post university was working in a medium secure hospital as a forensic mental health nurse. To broaden her skill set and gain experience with a different client group, Kerry then worked in a care home for people with early dementia for a couple of years. She returned to forensics initially working in a low secure unit for men and spent some time working in a prison setting as well. On deciding she was ready for a new challenge outside of a hospital setting, she joined Gray Healthcare.
‘It’s obviously early days for me but I’m enjoying the autonomy and flexibility I have in this role. Everyone I’ve met is very friendly, professional, supportive and responsive – it feels like a family. The induction and training so far has been excellent and of a high calibre.’
