Craige is one of our PROACT-SCIPr-UK® Instructors. PROACT-SCIPr-UK® is a ‘whole approach’ framework to support individuals who may present with behaviour perceived to be challenging. The PROACT-SCIPr-UK® framework is implemented in services throughout the UK and courses are accredited by the British Institute of Learning Disability (BILD) PI Accreditation Scheme. Craige is responsible for delivering our company-wide PROACT-SCIPr-UK® training programme. As well as delivering both induction training and regular refresher courses, Craige visits each package of support and undertakes regular training needs analysis to determine if additional training is needed.
Craige is a certified PROACT-SCIPr-UK® Instructor. He also has a qualification in Health and Social Care Level 3. He is also working towards his PBS Diploma.
Since leaving school, Craige has undertaken a variety of roles, including working as a nightclub doorman and working in airport security. After several years he opted for a complete career change and began to work with adults with addictions supporting them on their recovery journey. He completed his Level 3 in Health and Social Care qualification at this time. He became interested in working with people with learning disabilities through a colleague, whose brother had a learning disability. He initially began working with people with disabilities through an agency until he took a permanent role as a Support Worker at Gray Healthcare. He spent his first two years at Gray’s supporting an Autistic gentleman. Through work he attended a PROACT-SCIPr-UK® course and this approach was subsequently rolled out across Gray Healthcare. Craige was so inspired by the training he had received, he asked whether there was any possibility of him becoming a trainer alongside his Support Worker role. He discovered a passion for training and took on the role of trainer full-time in January 2022.
‘The thing I love the most about working here is that we genuinely put people first, we really get to know and understand the people we support. All our senior management have been a Support Worker at some point in their lives, so they really understand first-hand what the role involves and are incredibly supportive. I love delivering PROACT-SCIPr-UK® training to our teams – when our people receive the training for the first time, it’s amazing to see how relieved they are with this ‘hands off’ approach to managing behaviour perceived to be challenging. Then when I go out on my regular team visits, it’s phenomenal to see how well the approach works in practice, when delivered consistently, and to see the outcomes we are achieving for the people we support. Knowing you’ve played a small part in improving someone’s quality of life is incredibly satisfying.’
